Ready to smoke and the unit starts downloading updates…..WTF. Knew I shouldn’t have bought anything with “technology”.

Hey! It looks like you posted an image!

If this is a photo of one of your cooks, maybe share the recipe and techniques
used, as it’s almost guaranteed one of the first questions you will be asked!

    *What seasoning did you use?

*How long did you cook it, and at what temperature?

*Did you use any special tricks or techniques?

    Traeger on!

Hey there it seems like you did the thing that old people do when they get computers. They think they’re perfect in working right out of the box but it turns out they need to do a lot of updates to make sure that everything is working as good as it can.

It’s okay! Just turn on your stories and in maybe 20 minutes or so, You can start using your smoker.

For real though, comments like “I knew I shouldn’t have bought anything with technology in it”..
Do you even know what technology is or do you think it’s just something that has to do with like a screen.
Everything around you is built with technology. Be it analog or digital.

If modern digital technology upsets you, there’s always analog options.

The rest of us enjoy all the benefits of having all the new bells and whistles.
They aren’t necessary but we enjoy them.

First rule of smoking with a Traeger is assuming you’ll need to update your smoker before you can smoke. Plan accordingly (as dumb as it is).

There really needs to be an “update later” option.

I only had to do one update since having mine for a year. Think it coincided with the new grill they just released. I have a new chime sound now 🙄 but ya man I remember saying sucks for whoever is turning this on in a hurry. It took a long time.

I get a warm and fuzzy feeling when this happens right before I cook the thanksgiving turkey.

They should just make it do the firmware update during the shutdown process

  9. Cuckedsucked

A computer on a smoker…. where did we go wrong?

  10. Historical_Host6270

Bet you wish you had a Pro 22 right about now 😉 😜

This is at least the second time traeger has pushed updates on super bowl Sunday.

What idiot thought that was a good idea (2 years in a freaking row..)?

  12. GodFamilyandTraeger

🤣 dude! You did not make a bad purchase. However, you should’ve fired it up previously and let it do any updates. After the updates are installed you’ll be happy but just know that wood pellet smokers take a little bit to heat up and anything good takes time so low and slow, my friend.

This is the exact reason I didn’t buy a “smart” smoker. I am a technology guy, 30 years in the business, home automation, the whole nine yards, but only use it to make life easier. I read one post like this before I got mine and noped out of it.

    interesting

But also not mad at things getting patch updates

  15. IRodeTenSpeed88

You’re not ready to smoke then

  16. LuckyCheesecake7859

Hey, at least they’re updating and advancing the technology on it. Don’t get me wrong. I love my silverback, but its controls are about as dated as a speak and spell.

Traeger is a one and done brand for me. I wanted one so bad years ago. And as soon as I got one it was great for a while until the issues started popping up. Especially now at their current retail price, I will never spend that much on a smoker. The technology is nothing crazy. Plenty of other great brands.

This is why I will do everything in my power to keep my 10 year old Lil Tex 22 going, no fancy-schmancy techno-idiocy to get in the way.
