Solo dined at Restaurant Moliere’s lunch service in Hokkaido recently and was blown away at the food and service. They serve japanese french food and are located close to Hokkaido Jingu, Reservations can only be made over the phone, was easy enough to book. Their staff could speak a bit of English during the service but I made the reservation in Japanese to smooth out the process about 6 weeks before the meal.

Course consisted of:
1. Shiitake Mushroom/cauliflower soup
2. Tempura smelt
3. 25 vegetables all locally sourced
4. Kegani (horse hair crab) risotto with seafood flavoured foam
5. Fois grae, mountain foraged mushroom, lemon
6. Venison, red wine sauce, rutabaga
7. Mont Blanc made with lily flower

Everything hit the spot for me, except for the dessert was forgettable. I would rate the fois gras best I’ve had, seared beautifully and I wouldn’t change anything about the dish. The vege dish also was outstanding, the waiter said to just mix it up all and enjoy, every bite was spectacular.

The meal lasted about 90 minutes, food costed ¥16, 280 yen + drinks. I had chatted with the staff about my itinerary for sapporo, when i had left they provided me a copy of a travel food guide for French food across the world.
