It has been a little over a year since I fell in the rabbit hole of making espressos, but I’m glad I fell into it.

I’ve had the GCP Evo Pro for a year, until I discovered I had a flaking issue with the boiler (boilergate), and surprisingly WLL was cool to take it back and credit it towards an E24 last December.

I can understand why people folks advise against recommending the GCP for folks new into this. The notion of “temp surfing” is not something people may enjoy. While I learned how to use it, I did ruin a bunch of shots at first, doing back to back shots was always tricky, and I never had a really consistent extraction.. When I got the E24, it stayed about 2 months stock before I added the Barista Gadget PID on it.. Set at 105 Celsius (thanks to a redditor who suggested it to me while we talked about pid settings) and that’s it, no more dancing around the thermostat until it reaches that magical value. The taste test is solid,

What I enjoy about the Gaggia Classic is its imperfections made it a serviceable machine thanks to the online community behind it and the numerous improvements and mods you can add to it. Once you open it up, you can see that there’s not much to it other than a birds nest of wires all zip tied together (not impressed by the OEM wire management..). It’s “simple”.

The Eureka Facile Mignon does also a great job, really no comments other than the grind level knob is a bit of a mystery in terms of what the numbers meant … Do they mean anything? Based on my online research and youtube, it’s more of a reference than anything else but we can’t rely on it for the grind level? I’ll do micro adjustments based on the type of bean roast but that’s it really. If I do a french press, I prefer to use a manual burr grind which is set for that coarser level.

My latte art is just terrible lol but these machines make some solid cappuccinos and lattes.

  2. Yo! I just bought that same machine and it is supposed to show up Thursday / Friday. Any tip quick tips you could tell me that made you help dial in?

    Red looks awesome 🤙

  3. Have you looked into getting an add-on larger knob for the Eureka? They sell a variety of ’em on Etsy and Amazon and may help with the touchiness of the dial.
