Folks look at me funny because I order my cold beverages without ice. I just ask when the last time the ice maker was cleaned and you can watch the lightbulb over their head light up.

We rent the icemaker itself and own the bin. They come and clean quarterly, and we clean the bin when they do it.

I never use ice machines at hotels that have front access. Years back I heard about a frat buddy who found a buddy of his piss ass drunk peeing into the ice machine. So gross and forever etched in my brain

Yeah, ice machines get seriously nasty. People will always clean the wells inside that they can see but never clean any of the other parts. The trays where the water actually freezes into cubes are easy to clean but always forgotten

At my last job I kept finding rust flakes, some the size of a dime and the managers DIDNT CARE. It was so annoying.
The amount of times I’ve cleaned pieces of straight up moldy ice out of an ice machine is 5 times too many!!!!!

I work at a hospital and they have routine maintenance on those bad boys. Whole maintenance schedule and everything. Plus we get that dope hospital ice in the little chips. I’ve never actually seen an ice machine this dirty and I work in Detroit.

My first or second restaurant job as a kid was at a pizza place, where we actually kept everything clean. We did a proper bleach scrub down on the ice maker once a week.
Next place I went I was like, ok, where’s the snake for the Bunn and they literally didn’t know what I was talking about. I lost a lot of my innocence that day.

I was so crazy about cleaning the ice machine at my last barista gig that everyone hated it but the drinks I sent out weren’t full of moldy ice:) I wish someone would’ve asked to see it while I worked there, I worked so hard to keep it clean and stayed on everyones ass about scheduled cleaning every week.
The beer place connected next door had some moldy ass ice and I refused it the days our ice machine went out. Just didn’t have ice in drinks those days.
