Welcome!
If you carry on, your bank account will hate you but at least you’ll be happy (drunk, maybe!)
On hand, in my house, I probably have 20-30 bottles or so, split across the fridge in the garage (go-to whites and sparklings), a small wine fridge for my fancier reds and Champagne, and a few go-to reds in a cool cupboard in the kitchen.
What wine have you enjoyed lately?

I really don’t like having more than 2 open at a time, assuming they’re wines I paid for and enjoy. (I get sample bottles for work regularly).

Just in time for tariffs!

Hello, fellow Texan. I like a lot of what Duchman makes. Their whites are especially nice.

By chance was this from TJs? Reminds me of the selection when I ordered the beer and wine. Solid starters tbh.
Edit: to answer OPs question. I will bring wine to work or host wine parties. I tend to have around 500 bottles at home, but open them very rarely outside social occasions. Wine is really a journey and it’s a fun lens to view the world. You learn about people, culture, history, science, and more while enjoying a delicious beverage.

That vinho Verde is delicious. We sell it at my store. Nice natural effervescence, fresh and crisp for the price point.

Welcome! You’re off to a great start if this is the type of stuff you’re drinking.
We generally have about 50 to 60 on hand at home, all in a wine fridge. The rest is off site.
Day to day, we really only ever have 1 bottle of regular wine open at any given time, since we only go through maybe 2 or 3 bottles a week. There’s usually a bottle of fortified wine that’s also open and being consumed more slowly as well. It gets a bit hazier if you start counting what is coravined.
Generally, we don’t want a white open more than 2 days, or a red open more than 3.

I am not familiar with the vhino verde or the viognier you have, but Louis jadot and famile perine are both great producers, you have the most budget friendly. Bottles from both producers, but both bottles are good for the price and can introduce you the regions they come from

Vinho verde is such a delightful wine. No pretension. It is just a fun sip. Enjoy your journey!! I only have about 50 bottles at present. None are open.

What’s the point of money if you can’t turn it into something beautiful (like wine)?

Vino Verde is summer in a bottle. Perfect for the beach, backyard bbq’s. Portugal knows how to pack big flavor in inexpensive bottles.

My small collection fluctuates between 100 and 150 bottles.
I don’t — and you shouldn’t — keep anything open more than 3-4 days (and I recommend keeping it in the fridge if it’s open). Wine changes quickly when exposed to oxygen.
I open anywhere between 1 and… 20 bottles each week haha (sometimes I host wine dinners and am not shy about opening stuff). Average is probably 2 per week, and 90% of the time they get drunk within the same night they’re opened.
I do have a Coravin but rarely use it as I’m rather impulsive and would rather just pull the cork and live with my mistake — though I do check CellarTracker to make cork-pull decisions.

That specific vinho verde is so bad. I used to drink when I was 18 and it was cheap and drinkable Nowadays can’t stand it and no Portuguese with a wine taste will drink it

“On hand”? Probably 100 to 150. Open? One at a time, as much as possible. Open wine oxidizes and spoils. Most whites, roses, and reds are “off” the next day and gone shortly after. Some reds are better the next day. If so, they have promise for aging. To avoid waste, I rarely open multiple bottles.

If you’re just starting and enjoying French and Italian wines so far, I highly recommend the kermit lynch wine clubs. They have a variety of price points. You’ll get to experience a somewhat curated path through lots of regions of France and Italy with some tasting notes, guides for how and when to drink the bottle, and food pairing ideas. I’ve learned a ton from it.

I really enjoy La Vielle Ferm’s Rosè

I’m down to about 10 bottles on hand. Once a bottle is opened, it doesn’t last long so currently none are partial bottles. I’d like to get a Coravin so I can NOT finish a bottle in an evening, but haven’t sprung for that tool yet.

I live in a one bedroom apartment, so we have a 32 bottle wine fridge that is usually full or close to full. We might need to upgrade at some point! Will keep cheaper bottles at room temp if it’s full. Unless you have a Coravin, drink it right away! Although sometimes we’ll drink a couple bottles over 2 days, depending on the wine.

My wife will randomly come home with a case and we don’t sit on anything. Once it gets opened it’s gone that night.

This is a great toe in the ocean. Welcome and have fun exploring!!

Those vhino verdes are great light Portuguese wines. LJ isn’t bad either.

Of all of the numerous wines I’ve had in my life, vinho Verde is my “stuck on a dessert island with only one type of wine” choice. A fantastic bottle will never cost you more than $15 USD… Well, until tariffs kick in 🫠
