2021 Vieux Lazaret, CdP.
I’ve been tasting a lot of wines in the last year, probably more than 200. I’ve been trying to taste every single grape variety and region I can, and I’m ending with the classics, France, Italy and Spain.
This is my first CdP, it is a bit young but couldn’t find anything else with age under 100$. Glass is Gabriel Glas.
Nose of oregano, cherries, tomatoes and oak.
On the palate, ripe cherries, plums, some smokiness and a bit of that oregano. Acidity is medium and tannins are medium too, overall a good wine and I appreciate it! I would say it offers more complexity and third aromas than a cote du Rhône, but it is also double the price.

Not a bad wine. A friend brought this to a French restaurant last week. We splash decanted it and left it to rest for an hour. Still a tad hot, but not too bad at all.
Enjoy! CdP is one of my favorite French wines. If you ever have the chance to visit, you should. The vineyards are amazing to see with all the round rocks.
Edit: I think that smokiness I tasted is actually more like flint or gun powder, it’s a rarer aroma but I do like it! I feel like it’s the mix of the pepperiness of the Syrah and the terroir coming through.
Decant that bad boy
Hell yeah! Nice!! Thanks for sharing your notes and wine journey so far. Vintages aren’t always the first thing to discuss with wine but it’s worth noting: 2021 was an *especially* light/cool vintage in the Rhone (all of France really) with most of the wines showing less dense, dark, and ripe than usual. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing at all, as it leaves room for more savory or earthy tones for complexity, and also allows for more acidity to give the wine energy, but it’s also likely that this doesn’t show the incredible richness the region is capable of. Just to add some detail for your perspective! Cheers!
My local wine shop in Austin picked up a bunch of 2022s of this producer. You convinced me to pick up a few! Thanks for the review.
