Krug 169th ed- one of my very favorite champagnes, no one does multi- vintage blends like Krug. The brioche flavor was strong but blended beautifully into lemony, oxidative notes, a lovely champagne.
The 25 year old Brane Cantenac decanted for 2 hours was sublime and showed magnificently, almost reminiscent of a first growth! I got blackberries & raspberries along with plums with eucalyptus, tobacco and spices, subtle oak but no classic Bordeaux barnyard. The nose was particularly good.
The two wines paired very well with a Takimi ( type of hand roll sushi) dinner.

Completely agree that Brane Cantenac can hit first growth quality. Such a huge fan. I buy the off vintages whenever I see them – great value pre-2005 ish.
Looks like a great night. Cut the foil below the lip though please 😃
