  1. Recently I was reminded about HBO’s Silicon Valley, specifically the SeeFood app, and came to realize that certain ML problems that could be worthy of venture funding a decade ago can now be easily crafted as a side project by an individual.

I made Shazam for food: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/net.pkir.seefood

For those not familiar with the Silicon Valley series, it’s an app that estimates the energy value (calories) and key parameters of food by taking pictures of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATLDCeKKDAw

Before I can publish it on Google Play, however, I need first to collect at least twelve early testers. If you’d like to test it, please join this empty Google group, and then follow the link above: https://groups.google.com/g/seefood-early-access. Only I can see the members of the group and there’s no mail traffic.

Let me know what you think!

It did a great job with my breakfast!

Clocked it at 295 kcals. Told me it was nutritious and contained fiber, vitamins, and protein.

    I like this positive reinforcement!

Being part of a tester you still need to pay to download the app?

Where is the data being sent? What ai is it using? Is there a self hosted option in the future?
