Anyone else remember her? I used to stop by when I was in college, working as a dog-walker. I’d make three meals out of each schnitzel sandwich. She was the best.

Loved Olga’s! Still think about it whenever I drive by that stretch of Irving Park. Such a sweet woman. Those schnitzel sandwiches were fantastic.

If you talked to her in German the sandwich was enough for like 6 meals ..

Didn’t know of this place and this woman, but this post and the replies are so sweet so I searched her. Olga herself passed in 2016: [https://boundedbybuns.com/olgas-chicken-schnitzel/](https://boundedbybuns.com/olgas-chicken-schnitzel/)

Olga’s Schnitzel was the best. I loved the way she asked if you wanted “Moshterd” on it.
Sometimes I still think of her, am sad to hear she passed but glad to have known her in a small way.

Is there anywhere like this today? I’d love to take my husband to eat someplace like this where he can remember his Oma.

Miss her so much! Her husband hung out at the bar next door
Oh Olga. That wonderful lady. I had been dating this girl for about eight months. We had both come from long-term serious relationships and weren’t ready to commit, so we were taking things slow. But we really liked each other and we meshed super well. Similar interests and values and temperament.
We did this volunteering gig at an old folks home where we ran bingo and had a blast. Afterwards, I looked on yelp for a good spot to eat, and this was recommended—and it was right across the street. Olga was mentioned by name and the reviewer said that it was closed for a little while because of the owners health, but we were surprised to see that it was open again.
We walked in and right away Olga greeted us and said, “would you like to try a piece of schnitzel, one for you and one for your lovely wife?” She started to protest, but I turned to her and said, “it’s alright, just in this space, I’m ok with you being my wife for a little while.” That made her smile. Olga gave us half of an entire schnitzel to sample and it was absolutely delicious. We bought a sandwich to share. It was one of the best sandwiches we ever had. I had to take a picture because of just how much chicken she put in that thing.
We sat on the stoop outside to eat, and I turned to the girl and said, “you know, if I was ok with you being my wife in that store I think I’m ok with you being my girlfriend outside of it. Do you want to be official?”
That was 10 years ago. Now that girl is my wife and we have a beautiful almost 2 year old boy. I wish Olga were around for me to thank her, so I needed to tell the story to give her tribute. I give Olga credit for helping us reach a crucial milestone in our relationship. RIP you sweet woman. You were a treasure to the city and to our lives.

I still work down the street from her old shop. Used to go maybe once every couple of weeks. She would hand me a chunk of corned beef to eat every time.

Big RIP.
Like, as big as one of her pork sandwiches.

We only got to go once. The shop seemed neglected and vermin poop was eyed. But DAMN, schnitzel was delicious and Olga was super sweet, giving samples with her bare hands. Also, some of the best potato salad that I still think about.

Idk how I got here but I’m just thinking of the joy it would bring Olga to hear all these people talk about her schnitzel and I’m _emotional_
