I've mentioned using clear Solo cups for seedlings a few times.
Here's an example of why I like them.

Seedling looks pretty happy right?
In the second Pic you can tell from the roots that it definitely needs a bigger pot.
(Yes, I know it's not a tomato plant, but it was handy).

I was thinking the same thing about clear pots/cups. I recycled my Bonnie plants pots and love that I can see the root progress!

Not a good idea, red Solo cups are a better choice

  3. Doesn’t the light on the roots cause them to stress and stop taking up water and nutrients?

  4. I’ve been potting up my tomatoes in “clear” (semi transparent white) plastic cups for years without any issue, I do this specifically so I can keep an eye on root development.

I like the double red solo cup method myself

I loved them, just because I can see the roots. I have far too many photos of plant roots now. The size is great too.

Once I started more plants and switched to my storage bin system, I had to switch to a smaller square pot set up to fit them all. Love it (last year I had over a 100 tomato plants alone) but I do miss seeing the roots.

    Plant looks very healthy!
