These are the best steak fajitas I’ve ever had in my life. I’d say La Piscina is one of my fav Mexican restaurants in Austin. Any other really good spots I need to try?

  1. El Alma’s has really good enchiladas.

Mi Trailita for the best chilaquiles in town.

I’m not going to say they have the best Mexican food but Lupe Tortilla has amazing fajitas. My absolute favorite and would ask for this as my last meal. The beef melts in your mouth . I might have to go today.

I’ve been there twice, and, both times, the meat was more undercooked than I would like fajitas to be. That said, the best actually tasted really good. I don’t like that so much of their stuff is sour. The restaurant is also extremely expensive for what it is.

Completely irrelevant comment: something about the framing of this photo, the cloth wrapped around the skillet handle, and the fanning of the steak… all I can see is a monster hand coming out of a white cuff.

I know this is going to sound crazy but there is this tiny basement restaurant downtown called Messhall Cafe. It’s run by some amazing women who are making some of the best tasting and best priced Mexican food I’ve had in Austin. It’s at Brazos and 11th in front of the Capital. I try and go every time I’ve got business over there.

I make beef fajitas in la disco with Claude’s marinade. Way different style but really good.

  7. ~$50 for fajitas that don’t feed 2 or more is just silly and a crime against the spirit of Tex Mex.

  8. Worst photo of beef fajitas in my life. Ha. What the hell am I looking at

I 100% agree. Also try their queso and proper guac. You can get queso from their regular menu during brunch. I highly recommend it!

Matt’s – sorry I’ll take a down vote! also la piscina – that fried cheese on the skillet is 🔥

  11. I love this place and get the Pineapple Ribeye just about every time. We usually don’t eat it all and have another days worth of food. Typically get an app to start followed by eating a bunch of chips while imbibing on those tasty cocktails. Dessert is good and it can be pricey for some so know the prices before you go.

Pappasitos has a fajita platter with Beef, Quail, and shrimp that is an amazing combo.

For home cooking, Costco has a papaya based premarinated skirt steak branded Arrachera that is slightly better than HEB’s pack. It’s damn good.

What am I looking at here? Fajitas in fried cheese? Melted butter?

They are indeed good and among the best in Austin. I still feel the fajitas at El Tiempo are next level though.

Eldorado Cafe. Just tried it for the first time on Friday. Excellent food. I didn’t try their fajitas though. I had their Suaderos.

Polvo’s Cerveza Fajitas are the best in town. Original location, not the downtown location.
