The recipe in the picture calls for a minimum 4qt slow cooker. I have a 3.5 qt. I was thinking of one of these options: 1) use 3 chicken breasts instead of 4 2) putting in fewer potatoes 3) change nothing.

Also, what is the rule of thumb for filling the slow cooker – should it not be more than 3/4 full?

Lastly, it’s ok to stack the breasts in the slow cooker, right?

Thanks for any help you can provide to a novice cook.

It seems easier just to cut the recipe in half to me…but that’s up to you. I’d maybe not stack the breasts, but layer them in so liquids and spices can surround them more fully.
You don’t want to overfill a slow cooker, but you can go a liiiitle over 3/4 full if need be.
