Idk why we’re open Chefs. Hopefully the owners grant mercy and let us close early today lol

40 below is a regular thing where i am. Personally, I love going to work on those days, it tends to be slow and warm

  2. If it’s getting to those temps, I think we need a new word to replace “Extreme”.

Hail fellow Minnesotan! We just got the call that they closed school tomorrow because of the cold. One kid is pissed, 2 are dancing, wife and I are just annoyed they’re going to be home again lol

    Stay warm!

  4. I spent 30+ years living in MN. Just about nothing gets closed for any reason. I think in all of my time going to school we had at most a dozen snow days, and that was because snow was falling so fast they snow plows couldn’t keep up. I don’t know what schools are like these days though to be fair. Kids are just built differently now.

But closing because it’s cold? Nah, never heard of that. You know what -45 degrees in in Minnesota? A Tuesday. That’s a day you decide to wear a scarf, maybe.

  5. As long as it remains slow and the building is warm, nothing beats a skeleton crew just getting one or two doordash orders every 15 minutes

    Lowkey kinda fun

When most of the clientele is of senior age around my parts, close the place down. My Budweiser rep said they are closed all week due to the cold. If the Clydesdale ain’t running, neither should us.

Minnesota don’t play. Cold as fuck yet no snow in my area in the south central part. I don’t even care about the cold that much, but these brown winters can fuck the fuck off.

I’m originally from 175km north of the border. Those temperatures are approaching the “chilly” range.

When is this from? I’m in MN and see low of -21 tomorrow and -18 today

C’mon it’s not so bad! I just went for a 45min walk in Mpls.

As someone who was once stuck during a business trip in a cheap hotel during weather like this, thank you to those who are open! I nearly starved that week because everything was closed and I didn’t have anywhere to put/cook groceries. I finally found one restaurant that stayed open and went for lunch and dinner 4 days in a row

  12. I am also a Minnesotan and I have seen some restaurants in Saint Paul and Minneapolis close previously due to extreme cold. Some profit from it especially with DoorDash etc. I personally am not working tomorrow.

I am not being the slightest bit dramatic when I say I would sooner kill myself than leave the house in that. I’m from Houston and I struggle to understand how it’s possible to function in those temperatures.

  14. I’m located in Minneapolis and this was actually one of our busiest Mondays so far as a new restaurant.
    It was a good day.

No such thing as climate change though…

Reminds me of when I got called up to the ski resort in Yosemite for night cook during a rainstorm after a heavy snowstorm. I asked why there was no way we’d be able to open tomorrow but up I went.

Then the ‘97 flood hit wiped out the roads and most of my friends belongings below in he valley. We got trapped for over a week and were running out of supplies. We were about to just try and cross the line and if we get arrested great we’ll have a place to stay. They opened the road just in time and got us back safely.

As someone from northern Saskatchewan… life still happens in the cold. People still gotta eat, government workers gotta show up, tradesmen gotta build

Just got home from closing early lol shits cold as fuck and no one thought we were open on the holiday I guess

As a former Minneapolis-area inhabitant, isn’t that just … winter?

I am visiting my ancestral homeland to get my dad out of the hospital right now. A friend asked “I see you’re in Minneapolis, I hope everything is okay?” and I had to reply “No one visits Minnesota in February for the fun of it.”
