I'm not sitting down to a structured tasting. Just enjoying a well made, reasonably priced, aromatic white while playing with the kids. The conclusion: Drink more Fallanghina.

Nose: Jasmine with a hint of wet stone. Lower in the glass becomes a touch tropical with ripe banana.

Palate: Like biting into a fresh, juicy peach. Pleasant phenolic bitterness. There's a bit of white pepper on the surprisingly long grapefruit-oil finish.

As it warms, citrus dominates the nose and palate. I suggest starting a bit over-chilled to enjoy the full evolution.

A steal at $18.

Southern Italian is my go-to at this price point.  I’m lucky enough to work in Italy a couple weeks a year, and I’ll bring back a few cases every time.  Those are my pizza (or whatever other casual dinner) wines that I can pull out on a moment’s notice and know I’ll have a crowd pleaser.

Try the Masseria Frattasi ‘Donnalaura’ Falanghina next if you can find one!

Later harvest grapes go into this one, but the wine is fermented dry. Think a similar nose to what you got with this one with an added layer of exotic / tropical fruit, saffron, and ginger flesh. Also great with food, with the later harvest and a touch richer with the oak aging.

Had this wine for lunch in Amalfi and instantly fell in love with Falanghina. We had already been big fans of more southern varietals, but Campania really opened up a new area of exploration.

Falanghina is my favorite Italian white—I’ve had this one and love it. I also highly recommend iPentri, Contrada Salandra, and Masseria Felicia.
