Southern Lemon Pound Cake
Preheat oven to 325
Cook for 1 hour 30 minutes exactly

1 cup of unsalted butter softened
3 cups sugar
1/2 cup crisco shortening
5 large eggs (room temperature)
3 cups All Purpose flour (sifted)
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 teaspoon lemon extract

Grease and flour a bunt pan. Cream together all ingredients except the 3 cups of flour
Add the sifted flour one cup at a time and then mix just to incorporated. Do not over beat. It
is a thick batter.
Bake in preheated 325 degree oven for exactly 1 hour and 30 minutes.

  1. Ha,ha, Frannie. You need the lb. cake recipe I have (from the South) that starts off in a "cold" oven. Also, I see your recipe for the lemon pound cake says, cake flour. But did you use reg. flour? or does it make a difference. Thanks for your fun sight and wonderful recipes. 🙂

  4. Frannie I forgot to mention, don't feel bad about not preheating your oven once in a while. Sometimes when I'm cooking dinner on top of the stove I'm moving things around in the pot or the pan and, yep, there is no fire under it. I forget to turn the burners on every once in a while. It cracks me up.

  6. Since you use Crisco, what are your thoughts on butter flavored Crisco? Instead of plain Crisco, would you use butter flavored? Can you replace one of 1 sticks of butter with butter flavored Crisco?
