    I think you mean to ask not about California roll. That is not a California roll at all. It is gunkan maki. It’s specifically ikura gunkan-maki. If I have that wrong, others will correct me. Enjoy! And what a feast, that amount of roe. Wow.

  2. No, the iconic California Roll is stuffed with imitation crab, avocado, and cucumber. You can put ikura on top of it, if you want, but call it something else. An ikurafornia roll.

    Some restaurants sell a California roll covered in masago and call it an “orange roll”.

    Back in the day like 30+ years ago a lot of California rolls generally used to have tobiko or masago on them but that’s largely faded out from what I’ve seen.
