When researching a fine dining Valentine’s Day dinner, I found a lot of overpriced prix fixe menus that had less options, fewer courses, and higher prices than their normal menus. I’ve been wanting to try The Modern for a while, but couldn’t find anything specifically about the Valentine’s menu. Hopefully this helps someone else in the future.
In short, I thought it was delicious and well worth it. It was 295 for 6 courses plus bread and petit fours which seems to be shorter than their normal Tastings menu. The cocktails and mocktails were delicious. The two best dishes arrived in sequence and the first was the Eggs on Eggs on Eggs that lived up to the hype. Rich, gooey, salty, and they brought out a second brioche toast stick to wipe the bowl clean. The next course was a perfectly fresh, acidic, sweet Lobster Avocado Salad that perfectly contrasted with the eggs. The soup was good, the fish unremarkable but a sizable portion, the bread fantastic, and the steak well cooked but on the leaner side. The chocolate cake didn’t quite work for me, I prefer a richer sweet chocolate.
Service and ambience were great. Overall I loved the experience and would love to go again for their regular tasting menu. 8/10

295 seems very steep for that
I had a somewhat similar menu a few weeks earlier and also thought the fish was unremarkable (mine had clams instead of iberico so I probably would’ve liked yours more). Seems a missed opportunity for dover sole, which is such a nice fish.
Those Eggs on Eggs on Eggs are worth it, though. I’d go back just for those. I also really loved the artichoke and smoked sturgeon soup
The soup looks so good!
