Haven't seen my good friend in almost a decade. I got married 4 years ago. He came to town and got me this as a wedding gift.

In Chinese superstitions, you’d want to give him a dollar so you’re “buying it” and technically not a gift. It’s bad to gift knives as it’s something like “cutting you out of their lives”.
Great knife! My shun has lasted me over 15yrs, get it sharpened periodically. Keep it sharp!

All my kives are shun. Great company.

Why is this exact knife the go-to for gifts for cooks? I’ve gotten one from my boss along with 3 other cooks I work(ed) with, all of which were this exact knife, lol. I understand that obviously it’s a quality knife, but I feel like I see them everywhere.

Got the same one, love it.

It’s a good thing you got married four years ago. If I had gotten that on my wedding night, I’d be distracted wanting to slice something instead of fucking my wife. <_<

Just sent mine out to get sharpened and have the tip reground after it took a dive off the knife strip at home. Basically 15 bucks for shipping and handling and then 10 bucks to ship it there, 25 bucks to get my knife sharpener (or replaced if it’s too fucked up and covered under warranty) seems like a good deal to me.
Mine is 3 years old this month and it’s still wicked sharp with daily use and occasional honing. Probably would have braved the fall just fine if it hadn’t landed tip first in my linoleum floor. Tip snapped right off.

My mom bought me this exact knife many many years ago. It’s still cuts like a dream and I love the weight balance. Enjoy!
