Almost 4 years ago my mum served me this mash. I love potato in many forms -especially mashed- and I don’t like to not eat food that someone else has made for me… but the consistency of this had me gagging. (picture was taken pre gravy, I’m not a monster, and chicken is on a seperate plate)

This is basically (badly done) thuringian Zampe, a dish based on mashed potatos, that are stretched out with potato starch (basically simmilar to the dough you use for Klöße) and pan fried with Speck, onions and other stuff, depending on what is in your pantry at the moment. During the frying process it develops a crispy, golden crust and a quite rich flavour, which I love. But I can fully understand why the slimy texture of the dough can be off putting, especially when you expect fluffy or silky mashed potatos.. ^^

My mothers potatoes used to always taste like glue as a kid and mashed potatoes were my favorite food, I was always disappointed when they were like this. She thought she didn’t like mashed potatoes that much yet preferred to whip them, she never realized she was over mixing them 😭😭😭
