My family used to get a pie for takeout (from Grimaldi’s in DUMBO), eat it a block away at Fulton Ferry Landing, and then get ice cream from the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory.

    Cherished memories.

I met the Grimaldi family while out to dinner recently, they were some of the nicest people I’ve even met and truly lit up when they spoke about their family’s business. Such a loss to everyone in NYC, I hope the family is okay

This man is responsible for Old Fulton St becoming the pizza mecca of the world, launching not one but two of the strip’s famous brands. Now it’s a must-go for any tourist in the city. He elevated the entire pizza game. Much respect, may his memory be a blessing.

I’ve been around long enough to remember going to Patsy’s when it was still called that. Patsy would walk the dining room and greet people. He recognized us as regulars and would always stop at our table. The memories I have of the place. I was there when the Patsy’s sign came down and Grimaldi’s went up and asking Patsy what that was about. He had some choice words about lawyers. Then when he sold the place, we saw first hand the decline. It was wildly inconsistent and so we stopped going. When he opened Julianna’s I was so excited. We were among the first people who came. Patsy’s wife greeted us as we entered. It was like a return to the good old days. I wrote the first review of the place on the old Chowhound. Then the hoards descended. Good for Patsy, bad for me. RIP Patsy. The king of pizza.
