Bought some meat and was ready to throw it on my traeger and to my surprise this is what I see. Mold everywhere.
I used it twice within the last 8 months and it’s been covered outside under my balcony

If this is a photo of one of your cooks, maybe share the recipe and techniques used, as it’s almost guaranteed one of the first questions you will be asked!
*What seasoning did you use?
*How long did you cook it, and at what temperature?
*Did you use any special tricks or techniques?
Traeger on!

It could be a combination of moisture and heat under the cover. Did you season it with something like PAM when you first got it?
I always reapply one a month but I use my smoker quite a bit.

It’s got moldy from not cleaning before storing it. Maybe you can burn it all off on highest setting for about 30 minutes

That’s going to need a lot of elbow grease

500 degrees for about an hour should do it.

Damn. I’ve heard of that happening but I guess haven’t had the right conditions to experience it.
If it was mine I would burn it off at high heat for a while, scrape and vacuum out the ashes, and then probably burn it off again for good measure.

Mold from either moisture getting in it when it’s been stored or not cleaning it before storing it

Bro its a petri dish. Hot and moist under the cover. Did you clean it last time? Like spotless and greaseless?

You live in the south? I’ve seen this happen with a few months in between cooks. Even if you clean it spotless before storing.

This happened to me not too long ago. Just turn it on for a while anywhere from 300-max. Then just clean it and it will be good to go.

Happens when you go so long between cooks and don’t degrease before storage. Soak it in simple green and the pressure wash it. I do it at the beginning of every summer.

You can use a hand held torch, like what you’d use for copper plumbing to burn it off

It’s something that happens just 1 time for a traeger owner, and then we realize we need to use it more! Welcome to the club! 👍🇺🇲

Happened to me as well. The solution was to order 75% pure vinegar off of amazon (very potent and you don’t want to breathe it), put it in a spray bottle, spray it on all surfaces, fire up the Traeger to it’s highest point and let it go for an hour. We had mold and it worked perfectly with a wipe down after. If you’re looking to use now and can’t wait to order…use household white vinegar. Same process. Won’t work as well and you may have to burn it longer.
