Our son asked for a wildebeest stampede cake for his 4th birthday – his favourite scene in the Lion King.

We would have preferred to have a couple more hours to play around with the decorating and make it more detailed, but overall were pleased with what we pulled together in the time we had.

Thanks so much for everyone who had a suggestion for how to do the wildebeest for this cake! We used a custom 3D printed cookie cutter for the wildebeest and edible printed rice paper for the other characters (double sided, with a cocktail stick sandwiched between for stable placement on top). We had some rice paper wildebeest on standby that could have given a more cohesive overall look, but it was time consuming cutting out the rice paper and we liked the 3D effect of the biscuits. If I could make it again I'd add some manes and tails the the wildebeest in black icing.

Our son was thrilled, though I don't think many of his party guests got the reference haha.

I want to hire a 4 year old to design my next birthday cake. Never in a million years would I ever come up with Lion King stampede scene but I love it so much.

    You executed this perfectly!

    What’s wrong with him

That being said, I loved the scene with the junkyard song in Brave Little Toaster around the same age, so I’m one to talk.

Your 4 yo is amazing. I had to forward through so many Disney scenes for mine. The beginning of Finding Nemo made her hysterical.

In 10 years, that custom cookie cutter will end up on r/whatismycookiecutter. Anthropologists will be confused.

  10. Amazing cake but WHAT

I saw the Lion King when it came out, I was 3 or 4, and an adult with me took me out of the theater after that scene because it made me cry so much. Wanting a cake based on it is wild!
