Walked into work today and found out a bunch of shit caught fire overnight?? The linen baskets are usually to the right of the first picture against a fence, and I was told there was some weird chemical reaction with some towels that were used to clean off some rust, idk but looks crazy.
Some random person called it in to the fire department at 4am or something. They just got that camera too but it got melted so they can't even see exactly what happened

Could be spontaneous combustion of oily rags.
My first thought is the iron oxide (rust) reacting with some other metal to create essentially thermite but I can’t imagine why that would start burning as it’s pretty stable without a bunch of heat
Does the footage from the camera get recorded on another device? Like a computer or whatever that would be the base?
It could’ve been a crackhead….
Spontaneous combustion from greasy rags?
Just heard about a “lasagna battery” yesterday. Similar to what a couple other have said. Two types of metal and an electrolyte interact and conduct an electric current I guess.
We keep our dirty linen in a metal trash pail with holes ventilating the whole body of it. I wonder if that helps or hurts my chances of not burning down
Dumpster juice can be pretty flammable.
Was a firefighter in the military, happens quite often. That’s why you usually see those yellow metal , step cans , with heavy metal lids .sometimes used as ashtray / cig but disposable. But used for oily rags in maintenance also . Can confirm happens….. once on an apartment balcony , that one was fun.
I’m pretty sure the guy responsible had oddly shaped feet
Any storms pass through last night?

Damn. Body shop I worked at a while back burned down from a chemical reaction in the paint booth from rags.
I can’t I should have recorded something before it got cooked.
That’s crazy, I can’t remember what its called (is it just rust-off?) but anyone who uses that stuff should know the danger of just leaving rags soaked with it lying around, they basically made a bomb that stuff is super dangerous and they did exactly what you’re not supposed to do which is leave all the rags in one big pile
Thermite towels. Oxygen plus rust with certain lovely factors will ignite.
