I went to Costco looking for two specific bottles: Kirkland Signature Malbec and Gigondas. While I found the Malbec, insted on Gigondas I found Vacqueyras, which is apparently similar in that it’s Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. I couldn’t even find it on their website…

For those who have bought Gigondas recently, at what time of the year did you find it? Is it seasonal?

I recently reviewed the Gigondas: KILLER.

I bought three bottles and went back five days later. When I was previously in they had over 10 cases. When I came back they had sold out completely. Over 120 bottles gone in 5 days. The Gigondas is that good for how affordable it is. Many of the regulars bought a case or half case. It’s just so good for having around and popping a bottle whenever.

If it means anything to you the Vacqueyras is in my top 5 Kirkland releases. Wonderful bottle for the money. The Malbec on the other hand… well I’ll let you decide.

Wife and I cracked open the KS Malbec two or three weeks ago with a Spanish fish dish. Was nice development over the two hours we drank the bottle. Wife was very pleased, and Malbec is her favorite.

I’m sure this will be an unpopular opinion, but I’ve found that, as I learn more about wine and taste more wine, the Kirkland wines become less appealing to me. There are some good ones but, in general, they are really hit-and-miss, despite their very attractive prices. And I am a big fan of Kirkland branded products.

The Sam’s Club (Members Mark) Malbec is better than the Kirkland in my opinion; disclosure: I’m a complete wine newbie.

The Gigondas is very good. Didn’t care for the Vacqueyras, and I love a good Vacqueyras.
