I've loved spicy food and peppers for a long time. In years past, I've purchased a few plants of whatever I could find at nurseries, but the selection was always very limited. So I ordered a bunch of seeds this year and recently started all my seedlings. I've found that different strains have different germination and growth rates. I plan to move them into 3.2" peat pots next before they are planted outside. At what point should I start moving them to the peat pots? I've researched and gotten different answers. Some pictures as of today for reference of one of two trays. I started them in Coir that I recently fed with a bit of fish and seaweed emulsion until I transfer them into a potting mix. For anyone wondering, the strains I picked are as follows:
Piranha
Chocolate Primotalii
Yellow Fatalii
Carolina Reaper
Douglah Inception
Peach Miasma
Peach Ghost Jami
Chocolate Habanero
Super Bhut Jolokia
BOC X Reaper Orange
T-Rex Red
Bahamian Goat
Scotch Brains Orange
Aji Cochabamba
Quintisho

Woooweee going to be a great year! Trays cookin!
You’re not trying, you’re doing! They look great!
Looks great! I’m also going to try a ton of hot peppers from seeds really soon. What size seed starter containers are those in?
When the seedlings gain two sets of true leaves and the roots have grown throughout the media, they’ll be hardy enough to endure the shock of transplantation into larger containers. At the cotyledon stage they will slow to an absolute crawl if transplanted (and peppers grow slow enough as it is), so it’s best to wait a little longer in order to not wait ages for them to get going again. A larger root mass will allow for faster nutrient uptake and if you’re anywhere with a short growing season, you don’t want to wait even longer for those Primotalis to get to making peppers.🌶️ Most of those pictured look about a week or so away from that point. I’m a new grower myself, so I’ve been experimenting with different things, and firsthand have learned that newly sprouted peppers don’t do so well when transplanted before the leaves and roots are ready.
How long has it been since you planted your seeds? Im a first time grower and I’m wondering if my seedlings are on track
(they look great btw)
Looking great, when are you able to plant out?
It’s my first time planting seeds and I planted my chinense peppers last Saturday and I planted the rest of my peppers this Saturday and I just started seeing some sprouting a few days ago. So far 3 out of 19 have sprouted and it’s been 8 days. Yours are definitely further along than mine
