I recently got an offer to be the Sous at a different place in town and accepted said offer, so I gave my current gig a proper two weeks notice and this is how it went. The second pic was posted to the app our restaurant uses, after I walked out on my shift today.

If you care or are friends with the rest of the crew, let them know exactly what happened. Show them the BS from management. Otherwise, just go on with your life.
Fuck them. Take it as a sign, you deserve a vacation.
I generally advise against giving notice unless you are friends with the owner outside of work.
learned to be careful with my two weeks when i was immediately taken off hyde schedule
I also got fired from my first job after giving my two weeks
This is why I never put in a 2 week notice, not to mention people don’t generally get a 2 week “you’re fired” notice.
Fuck em
One company I managed at took notice as an immediate resignation but paid out two week severance (for hourly). The cool employees moving on to bigger and better knew how to navigate this and still get a proper send-off along with some money. The not-good employees didn’t get to poison the well for two weeks, and, yes, their hours could go to others. I’m assuming you’re a good one, OP, not trying to slight you, just relating a policy I liked
I had this happen once. Then when I contacted my manager and expressed my dismay, they put me back on the schedule and didn’t tell me (back in the day when the schedule was just a piece of paper on the wall) then fired me for “no call no show”
looks like you’ve been fired. file for unemployment until you start your next job.
I’ve worked at places where a 2 week notice was instant termination, or just being left off the schedule. It’s not uncommon, just unfortunate.
Two weeks notice is kind of an outdated practice. If your position does not take two weeks to replace, there is no value to any party in providing two weeks notice. When you get more specialized, then longer notice times become reasonable.
OP you were fired.
Screencap the text and file for unemployment ASAP.
Never give a 2 weeks. They won’t give you 2 weeks before they fire you. Unless they cab provide you with references you absolutely NEED, fuck em, dip out when you’re done.
I don’t see a problem here.
If you were a good guy and a good employee, and decided to give me a week’s notice. I let Sisco know I need an extra roll of plastic wrap on the next truck. On your last shift, your car would be completely sealed for freshness. Maybe sprinkle some balloons or confetti.
If you work in a right to work state then fuck their 2 weeks notice.
You are the lowest priority of the whole team after you put in two-week notice, so what do you expect? The logic is very straight forward and I do not see the points of complaining.
Fuck. That. Bullshit. The scumbaggary in this industry never ceases to amaze me.
Honestly just better for both parties man. You did the right thing, maybe they are butt hurt, or maybe they genuinely do have other cooks that need hours. I had the same thing happen but I had already started at the new spot, so it just had the effect of me not having to work doubles for two weeks which I was very thankful for. Onward and upward brother 👌
“Working here is a privilege”, “if you’re not having fun, you’re doing something wrong”
What an impressive level of gaslighting and self delusion
Some kitchens will take you off schedule when you give 2 weeks notice because they are scared other folk will follow suit from conversations with you about why you are moving forward. And it’s not a completely unfounded fear. Once the seal is broken, a mass exodus can happen. I’ve seen it happen.
Aaaaaaand this is why you don’t put in a 2week notice
Am I the only one who reads this in favor of the employer?
You quit, and by the sounds of things they’re high in supply of available workers that they’re prioritizing over you. Are you getting paid regardless? If so, company is well within their right to not schedule you and there don’t seem to be hard feelings.
This is very normal, and happened to me in tech as well when I gave my notice. I wasn’t on maintenance projects and removed in favor of other employees for a month, so did nothing for a month pretty much. If they have people to spare, why invest in someone leaving?
I gave my two weeks at my current job as a restaurant chef. My last day is tomorrow, and our exec only contacted me today to bring the new guy up to speed tomorrow.
It could go either way, unfortunately, I’m sorry that happened to you!
One major Chicago restaurant group told me, “Thanks for giving us your two weeks, we would have had to blacklist you from future hiring opportunities otherwise,” Most have appreciated and honored the two weeks, but they weren’t overstaffed, and wanted time to interview people, train the new guy, and adjust to the change.
However, one scheduled me two days a week for a month, all of a sudden, which hurt me badly, and I really regretted, (I was in a lead position, thus extra notice) especially knowing how they were selfish cheapskates. I suppose sometimes you need to make a judgement call, based off all the information you have on hand.
Sometimes, with the “Notice? Nah, bye!” mentality, what’s the difference between that and a no call, no show, in a sense? Joseph talks about respect, sure, but the idea of the notice is that the respect goes both ways, you are considering your team when you give notice, instead of leaving them high and dry. If I were your co-worker and I saw they treated you this way, I’d be wary of my employer, and how expendable I am.
I’ve known so many people who have been let go immediately after giving notice, only to have that very same restaurant calling them up a few days later, or even weeks later, meekly asking them to cover a shift…..
“If you’re not having fun you’re doing something wrong.” OK then.
“Working here is a privilege!”
Nope.
No one exploits you like family!
So you put in your notice and they stopped scheduling you? This is pretty much how it goes everywhere. These companies have 0 loyalty to you and the second you have a foot out the door, they have no incentive to keep you around. It is what it is. Gl with the new gig.
The right thing to do is ask if you’d like the stay the full two weeks and keep you on if you do. Most don’t. But then some that do wish to stay turn lazy or toxic the last week. Not saying you started cutting corners or poisoning morale just saying from Mgmt side, it happens.
And then sometimes Mgmt is resentful too, I’ve seen it happen both ways.
Glad you got out before drinking all the Koolaid. More for Joseph.
Have fun, or else!
Brother is cold as ice.
Enjoy your 2 weeks off
“Passive aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated” yet he’s being petty and passive aggressive by cutting you off the schedule. What’s a joke and good riddance to that douche
FYI- in my own personal experience over half of the employers that I have turned in a two week notice for have either terminated me on the spot or had me escorted off the premises shortly thereafter.
Many employers view a two-week notice as a two-week period of intense liability for them, they cannot afford to take the risk that you will do something spiteful on your way out the door; other times they don’t want the fact that you’re quitting and the reasons why being discussed amongst the workforce to cause potential problems.
There’s nothing wrong with putting in two week notice, if you intended to honor it which I’m sure that you did then all that does is just verify the depth of your character.
However you have to look at it like this- would they have given you a two week notice if they were going to can your ass? doubt it.
So in future this is a good opportunity to understand that once you put in a notice, that you can consider yourself cooked from that point on moving forward.
The only time I’ve ever had an employer honor my two week notices when they really didn’t want me to leave, for whatever reasons. If the employer views employment at their establishment as a privilege then you’re not going to get that treatment, ever.
Yeah these days I take a minute to figure out if its worth giving notice. Its at will hiring in 49 out of 50 states and uts so common for a business to ask you for notice only to fire you immedietly.
This is normal. Whenever someone gives notice, you asses the situation and move forward. Some people just let people go on the spot. Be prepared for this. Different states have different laws around this…
Every sales job I ever put in a 2 weeks for always told me “that won’t be necessary”. When I quit my Chick Fil A management job they scheduled me for 1 of the 2 weeks. There is some truth to getting those hours to those who will be with them going forward but then again I don’t know their labor budget.
I’d say he was a little more stern than necessary but he wasn’t inappropriately mean.
What’s the problem here? You gave 2 weeks, worked one of the weeks, and they aren’t scheduling you the 2nd week. I don’t see an issue with that
Make sure all your coworkers know. No two weeks necessary, from now on you just walk out.
Scumbag move
I stopped reading at “as a privilege”
“Working here is a privilege.”
GTFOH you can already tell shit is toxic just by that statement.
