New here… so sorry if this is a redundant post. I have had my Daniel Boone for about five years and always had it covered. Covered patio, and bought the cover for it.
I can’t begin to explain how disappointed I am with GMG. Multiple power failures, lack of compassion from GMG, and as the pictures show, just garbage quality. I don’t neglect it and it still looks like trash. Never in my life have I experienced something like this.
Want to replace it, need some opinions. Personally feel like Traeger is just as bad. Commercial money mover. I get it, just don’t want one. Maybe Rec Teq or my new favorite Yoder? Thoughts and opinions please.

I have a 5 year old DB, no rust. Kept in garage, not outside.
Got a Davy Crockett that will turn 5 this father’s day. It has lived in the garage or been covered. Smoked in the rain a few times under an awning. Live in a low humidity environment. Zero rust.
I’m not a fan of covering any grill. They trap moisture and cause peeling paint and rust. Whatever you choose, skip the cover and just move it where you have cover,ie patio or garage. As far as brands, if you are looking at Yoder, check out Lone Star Grills, MAC or Assassin. Best of luck
Recteq.
I can speak from both camps. Yoder stores outdoors, and GMG stored in the garage. Minimal rust on either, Midwest based. The key on both is to get them hot and oil often. That will keep the water and rust at bay. Overall I’d buy another GMG again for a daily driver, but the Yoder burns so much cleaner and has amazing uniform heat distribution.
Quick edit: after my first GMG I’ve only ever bought used smokers from FB Marketplace. Amazing deals to be had.

I despise GMG… Worst pile of garbage I’ve ever owned
I had a gmg and it started having power problems after 17 years. I tried to get in touch with them but they were complete perks so now I own a smoking brothers
If you got the cash that you can burn Ive used both the Yoder and Lonestar pellet smokers and man are they good. If I had to choose though it would be LoneStar with no competition its just a better thought out and preforming Yoder hands down. On the more reasonably priced side I have heard nothing but amazing things from the woodwind pro
It sure reads like some of their original 12v units had problems but they also got bullied hard from what I have read and heard by traeger in a tough legal battle. Read yo if interested. Its quite the story.
I have the 2.0 peak and love it. Bee. A year of blissful smoking.
They do 150 smoke better than anyone
The prime wifi for 2.0 is the best I have seen and I have used the top four names in pellet for many years
I leave my grill outside without a cover and still looks as good as the day it came home.
Also the tech support has been there to answer questions as needed this past year for sure
Lots of companies go through ups and downs. They are up now big time with these 2.0 grills.
boon covered outside in the midwest gets every temp and weather you can imagine, no rust no problems probably going on 5 years too
I had the Davey Crockett, it was awful. Temps never stayed consistent, had to fight to keep it lit, and there was a 50° difference left to right. Finally gave up and got a Traeger PRO22.
I have a 5 year old GMG, it lives under the roof on the patio. It does get rained on a bit if its windy too. There is a bit of rust on it which sucks but other than that no problems
I live in Oregon. Lots of rust.
Mine is outside in the rain and snow without cover for a couple of years and no rust so far. I put a small plate above the buttons otherwise they’ll misfire when they get wet
