My reusable pod method (see comments)

  1. I’ve seen a lot of people ask about recycling pods so I wanted to share my techniques. I’ve been doing the reusable method for around two years now. This is my method and the size of the grounds I use for reference. I vary with grinds but regular ground coffee works (I normally self grind but I got this bag for when I don’t feel like it). I usually do this size ground or finer.

I reuse the 7.7mL size pod.

When packing the grounds coffee, you want the lid to go on snug but not too tight. If it’s too tight the water pools up above the pod and don’t brew. If it’s too loose, it’s too watery. I fill mine and flatten it but don’t pack it, let the lid pack it for me.

It still foams a lot! I wish I had made it in a clear cup to show you but I transferred from my mug because I didn’t want the glass to crack. It makes a good bit of foam. The regular pods are more vibrant and pronounced with their deliciousness, but this is still pretty good and my daily driver when I don’t want to splurge on pods or want a second cup of coffee!

Last pic is coffee poured from ceramic mug to glass so foam lost, and sugar and milk added

If you use espresso roast, especially with a better coffee like Cafe Bustelo, it’ll give you that traditional Nespresso crème top layer

  4. I don’t like the kids that take space from the pod and use the foil caps to get more grinds in the pods but everything you say is true regarding too tight it doesn’t work and too little and not strong enough. As well the bought grind is too coarse but I also use it to save time.
