There are many different types of restaurants you might find in Florida’s malls. Many are fast casual and part of a food court. But some are actually sit-down eateries that are a bit more fancy. Aba, a Mediterranean-themed restaurant at Bal Harbour Shops, is one of them. However, it is closing down in May and laying off all of its employees.

About Aba Bal Harbour: This is actually a chain with locations in Austin, Chicago, and Miami’s Bal Harbour. The location in question is located at 9700 Collins Ave. #101, next to Saks Fifth Avenue. According to the eatery’s website, it offers a modern take on Mediterranean dishes with an interior that is reminiscent of summer overseas. Many patrons recount good experiences on Google reviews, like Lorrie who wrote, in part:

“My husband and I had an incredible date at Aba Miami in Bal Harbour Shops! From start to finish, the experience was perfect. We enjoyed the short rib shakshuka and shawarma spiced skirt steak and eggs. Both were absolutely delicious!…”

The Upcoming Closure And Layoffs: According to the South Florida Business Journal, the eatery will close permanently in May of 2025 due to a “loss of business opportunities.” Around 60 employees will be laid off and they do not have bumping rights nor are they represented by a union. In a statement, Aba said:

“While it was not an easy decision, our team is grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Bal Harbour Shops to serve the community and visitors alike…We look forward to continuing to welcome guests at our locations in Austin, Chicago, and Nashville—coming summer 2025.”
