PORTAGE, Mich. – A West Michigan church will give away at least a thousand kits for families in need to make Christmas dinner.
As part of their regular Friday groceries giveaway, Valley Family Church in Portage will be providing everything needed to make sure local families have a meal on the table this Christmas.
The church has more than a thousand bags filled with all the sides, including ingredients to make Christmas cookies. Those who attend will also get a ham, some fresh potatoes and other food.
Church leaders said it’s a way to make sure everyone has something to celebrate.
“We just want to give people a chance to kind of get up and get on their own two feet a little bit and be able to prepare their own Christmas dinner right in their own home, and experience that love that comes along with the season,” Matt Munson, executive pastor of community care at Valley Family Church, said.
The giveaway will happen Friday, December 21 from 10 a.m. to noon, at Valley Family Church just off Oakland drive and I-94. It is completely free and on a first come, first served basis.
Organizers expect to give away more than a thousand meal kits.
