Scientists in the new study for the World Cancer Research Fund found that the Mediterranean diet reduces the risk of breast cancer by 40 percent.

Given that the Mediterranean diet includes nutrient-dense foods such as nuts, fruits, vegetables, fish, whole grains, and olive oil, it may reduce the risk of stroke and heart disease.

The Mediterranean diet is especially effective in reducing the risk of ER-negative breast cancer, which usually occurs in post-menopause and which cannot be cured with the help of hormonal therapy.

The leader of the study, Professor Piet van den Brant found that the risk of breast cancer is reduced among women who use the Mediterranean diet, but who did not live in Mediterranean countries.

In the study, which was published in the “International Journal of Cancer”, it is also said that this type of breast cancer usually has a worse prognosis than others.

In the research, which lasted 20 years, scientists observed 62.573 women aged 55 to 69. Their food was carefully followed, in which the use of red meat, sweets, bread and rice was at a low level, reports kp.

In the Mediterranean diet, alcohol consumption is measured, but knowing that it affects the appearance of breast cancer, it was excluded from the study.
