LAPEER, Mich. (WJRT) – Woodchips BBQ in downtown Lapeer made sure everyone got the chance to enjoy a Merry Christmas dinner.
The restaurant opened its doors to serve anyone looking for a hot meal and some company during the afternoon. Their free menu included American barbecue and non-alcoholic drinks.
Woodchips BBQ owner Patrick Hingst has hosted the free community Christmas dinner for six year. He said everyone was welcome to dine in or carryout a meal with no questions asked.
Hingst said people from all walks of life drop in to eat on Christmas. Staff members from the restaurant volunteer their time to serve the meal.
Woodchips BBQ accepted donations for its community fund during the meal, but no payment was necessary for anyone to eat.
Many local businesses have signs on their store fronts showing support for the community, asking for prayers, some even closing their businesses today.
