Hi, chili lovers!
I’ve set up a hydroponic system with two boxes:
– Left Box : Azteco F1 chilies
– Right Box: Naga Bhut Jolokia and cucumbers (for my girlfriend, who prefers mildness 😊).
After five weeks of growth, I’m wondering:
1. Are my plants spaced well enough for healthy growth?
2. Should I top (trim) my chilies for bushier growth and higher yield?
any advice is greatly appreciated ☺️
Thank you

Do you have any fans for airflow?
How’d they get so big after only 5 weeks?
I have 4 week old plants that are still seedlings
They look okay. Fan will help humidity issues.
If you don’t have plans to transplant they’re gonna be pretty cramped. It’ll be hard to have more than 2 full size plants in each setup, so if you want to keep that many in there you’re gonna have to trim pretty frequently
You’re also wasting a ton of light by not having reflective siding to bounce light back at the plants. As they become bushier, it really helps to get at the lower leaves of the plants.
Yes I’m a fan or topping and trimming. As well as removing premature buds. You can trim a few older leaves at the bottom to encourage air flow too. A fan would be ideal.
I agree though that they need more space to really thrive. My hydro lettuce and beans developed huge root systems, so I’d imagine a pepper plant would too. I’m growing 2 peppers as an experiment each in their own 18L water cooler jug so they have plenty of room.
