Sad to be losing another independent restaurant… they had a pleasant and sizable side patio, perfect fries (cooked in beef fat) and will miss their gougeres 🙁

    From the article:

““It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing the closing of Taverne Tamblyn for dinner service. This was not an easy decision to make. I love what we have created together: a cheerful neighbourhood restaurant offering the classic French cuisine I love to prepare and serve,” reads the message signed by Taverne Tamblyn owner Ben Gundy.

“But even at the best of times, a full service restaurant operates on razor thin margins. And given the current economic situation in our industry, I feel it is best to turn off the lights in the evenings. Going forward we’ll be focusing on a line of prepared foods, catering and the occasional bistro night.”

That means that not all hope is lost for fans of Taverne Tamblyn. The restaurant hopes the bistro nights may be more than just occasional, possibly doing them every Friday night, but the future is still uncertain.

Taverne Tamblyn will be offering their regular menu up until they close, but will no longer be offering their Tuesday prix fixe menu.

Taverne Tamblyn will be closing for dinner service on March 29.”

That’s too bad! Loved Taverne Tamblyn. Between them and Greta Solomon’s closing, the east end lost a couple great French bistros recently.

Wow, they weren’t open very long. Sucks to see.

Their prices were too low for the quality of food you were getting. $25-30 entrees which would have been $40-50 elsewhere. Always packed too.

Any time I went past, they seemed to be closed. I had full intention of trying them at several points.

Really sucks it was a go to. I can’t say it was ever empty when I was there but half full or really busy. It was by far best bang for the buck and with proper servers and everything. Their message wasn’t a full closure. Maybe a short reprieve and will reopen come patio season. I think the folks who owned Sarah’s (previous place) own the building and seemed like they got along. So hopeful it isn’t gone for good. Eating for steak frites special one last time tmrw!

Found the food good but small portions for the price

  9. It definitely looked popular, hopefully something can survive there. My wife is bummed but never wanted to go when I suggested it.
