Extra virgin olive oil is my all-purpose cooking oil of choice. I use it in marinades, salad dressings, and so much more. While I have a go-to bottle I’ve used for years, I’m always down to try new ones — and there’s no shortage of bottles from emerging brands popping up on shelves.
I’ll try almost anything once, but only buy it twice if it really impresses me. The latest one to earn a repeat spot in my cart? Huwa Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

What’s So Great About Huwa Extra Virgin Olive Oil?
There are actually a few things you should look for when buying olive oil, but most importantly you should check for a harvest date (if it’s missing, it might contain older oil from multiple harvest years). You should also stick to a darker container to better protect the oil, and only buy the amount you use in two or three months (once opened, the oxygen deteriorates the oil). Huwa Extra Virgin Olive Oil checks all three of those boxes — and then some.
This single-origin EVOO is handpicked and hand-washed at a small family farm in Aqraba, Palestine, before being cold-pressed. The herby oil has a robust peppery finish and is sold in dark, 380-milliliter bottles, which lasts me about a month. It’s also got a squeeze bottle-style nozzle that makes it easy to pour (so I don’t accidentally add too much into the pan). Oh, and the packaging alone is absolutely adorable and looks great on my countertop.
What’s the Best Way to Enjoy Huwa Extra Virgin Olive Oil?
Extra virgin olive oil is different from olive oil in how it is processed (it is considered unrefined), and can be used in a multitude of ways. I’ve been putting my bottle of Huwa Olive Oil to work in my kitchen. It sears my steaks like a dream (lending my ribeyes a generous crust) and makes the most delicious vinaigrette. I can’t wait to use it in my next olive oil cake.

One of my all-time favorite snacks is freshly toasted sourdough (that’s toasted with EVOO), topped with flaky sea salt, and served with a little extra olive oil on the side for dipping. This EVOO gets a buttery flavor when toasted; when raw, it’s a bit peppery. This combination is magic on toast (and really, every other application it’s in).
