Our tester, Veronica Zambon, says: “Full disclosure: I am in the United Kingdom, so the sign-up process may differ slightly than folks in the United States. However, I found the sign-up process easy!

“HelloFresh asks you to pick a plan size initially, choosing between 2 to 4 servings and 3 to 5 recipes per week.

“You can change the amount at any time (so long as it doesn’t fall below the minimum 2 servings and 3 recipes per week), either during your sign-up process or through your account once you’ve started your subscription. You can also choose your meal plan at this stage.

“The U.K. options are Mostly Meat, Veggie, Family, Quick Cook, Calorie Smart, Pescatarian, Flexitarian, or Protein Rich. At the time of trying this service, I was looking to lose some weight, so I chose Veggie and Calorie Smart. If you don’t choose a meal plan now, you can always filter the meals when it comes to making your first box!

“Unlike some meal services, HelloFresh does have a good variety of veggie food. I found that there were several that piqued my interest (I’m a fan of spicy food, curries, and green dishes), as well as enough family-friendly veggie foods that families with pickier eaters could find recipes that worked for them.

“The first few times I ordered from HelloFresh, I could not fault the ingredient quality and freshness. However, as time went on, more and more ingredients came looking past their best — several garlic bulbs were soft, onions were bruised, and peppers were looking a little tired — and just before I canceled, ingredients and recipe cards were missing.”
