Sales of traditional Christmas foods — including pigs in blankets, stuffing and panettone — are soaring well beyond December, with experts suggesting global instability may be driving people to seek out comforting foods.
Waitrose has reported a marked increase in demand for Christmas staples in the week commencing March 16, with sales of chestnut stuffing up 89 per cent, chocolate florentines more than doubling and pigs in blankets up 19 per cent when compared with the same week last year.
