Why does prepackaged grated Parmesan cheese taste spicy?

My family has been buying this cheese for awhile and I’ve noticed a couple times that for whatever reason it tastes spicy, almost like pepper. I don’t like it and I’m wondering if it’s the product or an issue with storage.
