i would consider myself picky on how steak is cooked since pretty much any amount of pink makes my terrible stomach even more terrible. out of the two, almost everyone is gonna pick the first one. but i will say, i love a good well done steak. that second pic isnt well done, that is basically shoe leather. there is a way to cook a well done steak and it still be juicy.

I would guess your father is middle eastern. Back when, it was indeed a bad idea to eat rare “beef” there, so everyone played safe and cooked all the meat very well done. This is what my grad school office mate told me. He said he’d get physically sick watching me eat medium rare steak when we went out to eat.
