I’ve never had Ridge before. Did I make a good decision in this Last Bottle marathon?

I haven’t had a bottle of Ridge yet that I didn’t think was worth at least 35 dollars.

It’s solid, a bit hotter and juicier / more alcoholic than the Sonoma stuff. Heading there tomorrow to pick up my wine club shipment so I can try it and get you some more specific notes for this vintage.

Just got my Zin delivery from them. Always a pleasure.

Haven’t had that particular bottle but Ridge doesn’t miss.

Dusi is good. Turley makes a really good Dusi too.

Ridge is ultra solid, I’ve never had buyer’s remorse with anything from them

  7. Zin is the unsung hero of Cali wines imo. Still cheap but a lot of it is damn good if you like the fruit forward stuff. There’s tons of central coast and sierra foothills zinfandel that’s priced well under what it drinks like.

For reference, Bern’s Steakhouse currently sells the 1976 vintage of this wine. If you take care of this wine, you’ll be able to enjoy it today or for years to come.

I grew up with Ridge, first wine club I signed up for.  Dusi Ranch has always been good, well worth the price.

Honestly, drinking any ridge is a good idea. They do everything the right way from working with suppliers to making wine.

  11. They are all single vineyard field blends, always worth the $35, but it’s fun tasting the differences between the vineyards!

Dusi Ranch is a great vineyard. Ridge is a great producer. $35 bucks all day.

Good bottle, but Ridge tends to require more bottle age in my experience. Lay this down and revisit in the future.

You can’t make a bad decision with Ridge

  15. The Ridge Zins are solid. And paying $35 is a fair price.

I love that the consensus is that Ridge makes fantastic wines.

    They do, IMO.

I’ve never had a bad one.

Haven’t had Ridge, but $35 is almost always worth trying something new imo.

I picked this up in the last marathon. Ridge is my favorite winery but I’ll be the outlier here and say this is my least favorite Ridge wine as it is right now, but maybe it just needs time. So fruit forward, boozy, jammy, no concentration, all of it either needs to fade a bit or this just isn’t my style, I blame Paso. I have 5 more I stuffed way back in the cellar to forget about. I hope you like it, but if not, please try some Lytton Springs, Geyserville, Estate bottles etc. Ridge is outstanding.

As a California focused wine educator I feel like I’d chime in a little.

Lots of comments here about ridge and rightly so, as ridge is a fantastic producer (I am visiting Monte Bello next month in Santa Cruz Mountains and super duper excited for that).

But I would also love to highlight the Benito dusi vineyard with 100 year old zinfandel vines (not kidding), planted in 1925 in Templeton gap terroir in Paso Robles. Janell from J Dusi wines is doing fantastic work and spearheaded the family’s foray into winemaking when they were previously focused on farming.

Check out their own estate bottling of zinfandel from this vineyard as well, and if you like that enough to explore the rest of the range, they also have a Dante dusi vineyard (zinfandel vines planted in 1945) as well as a paper street zinfandel.

Templeton gap terroir is unique within Paso because it is relatively cool climate with all that maritime influence, if you’re an acidity and fresh fruit freak you’ll absolutely love the zins from there.
