Fuck me if this isn’t so true lol. I am experiencing this right now after a corporate buyout last year and newer managers coming in 😭. I keep telling my chef to stop doing extra work. Do your job and that’s it dude.

As a former GM, this absolutely cracked me up. Damn you chefs and your creativity, prickliness, and superiority. I would’ve starved if not for you.

As a customer: If that’s not the way it is at your place, your restaurant is crap.

Loool, my old GM giving us specific instructions to follow for literally anything, we do it our own way. He asked why we didn’t do it like he asked, we say this is more efficient and blah blah, he stays silent and walks away with a shake of his head. He has nothing to say because he can’t argue that his way was better.

Basically whoever was there first. Both can be pretty high turnover roles lol

Lolol.
Watch the GM / managers not show up and money is still made. Probably run sloppy behind the scenes but still.
Watch what happens when all the chefs don’t show up! Hahahahah
Fucking GM’s

Lmfao dude… this is so funny.
I work for three owners. Two proper owners and one operating partner. The thing is, none of them are restaurant people. None of them have actually managed a restaurant. They are all bar people, and this is the first time they have had a kitchen in their bar.
So like… I’m not *the* boss, but I am the boss of my little world, and pretty much everything to do with the food program. They have no idea what is actually going on with their kitchen. No idea. Or really the food program, at all.
Years ago, when we first opened that place, I was having a power struggle with the operating partner, our GM, and he was trying to get me to do something stupid, I have no idea what it was. He was in the kitchen arguing with me about something, in front of the entire kitchen staff, and we were just not seeing eye to eye.
Eventually, in trying to get me and my staff to do this stupid task, he says something like “I’m in charge here, and I can command you to do this.” Basically, insisting that if I don’t do what he wants, he’s going to start giving orders here. And, I shot back with, “OK dude, tell us what we need to be doing right now. Do it. Give us orders.”
Then, my entire staff, and god bless them for this, stood their with me and waited for this guy to tell us what to do.
The GM just walked out of the kitchen. Didn’t say a word lol.
Looking back, I probably should have found compromise with him. It wasn’t a good move to challenge him like that. But, it was effective in that it got them out from up my ass, and allowed me to run that kitchen to the best of my ability, without meddling in it.
