Hi,

As some of you see in my other posts, I am an Deaf ASL tutor and instructor. So, I thought pizza loving redditers would appreciate the video that I made last year showing sign for pizza.

Have an awesome day and eat lots of pizza for me!

Best,
Sean

    That’s awesome! I wonder if there’s a way I can get that in T-shirt form…

Yea this is a pretty cool sign, it is almost like you got claws out or something when doing it it’s forward – which is perfect for pizza it has attitude I love it.

Ten plus years ago I had a job where my only real immediate co-worker was deaf. We had a handful of deaf clients and she taught me some ASL. It stuck since I was able to use the little bit pretty often at work. Those skills have almost totally atrophied.
She was amazing at reading lips, I could mouth something to her across a busy room and she’d know exactly what I was saying.

Are you in the east coast? I think that’s how my grandpa from NYC signs it

I’m going to remember this one! That’s awesome.

Why do some sign language motions make no sense compared to the item. Curling my fingers and then making them shake doesn’t have anything to do with pizza. They should’ve come up with a better one. In fact, who comes up with the fact of standard.

  8. Thanks Sean , always great to learn something new everyday, this helped

My mans having an out of body experience eating a slice while trying to film a tutoring video

Pizza, in and of itself, is a love language all can understand. No genders, no ethnicities, not even species specific. (I never met a dog or cat who didn’t enjoy it too.)

Thank you, the only thing lovelier than this pizza and this post is you, also, much appreciated, i always appreciate learning something new, and good lord, that pizza is so good, and you seem to enjoy it a lot, such a nice wholesome post.

  12. OH, that’s great, Sean!

Thanks for sharing. I’m going to teach that to my kids and tell them that’s the only way I’ll respond to their requests for Pizza from now on! LOL!

Is ASL a way to convey full words without spelling letter by letter?

And, what pizzeria serves in-the-box at a table inside? I’ve not experienced that before.

I’m horrible at learning languages, but I’m going to practice this until it becomes muscle memory!

As someone who loves pizza and is taking ASL classes, This is 👌

  16. I used to work in one of the cafeterias at RIT/NTID, one of the stations was pizza. Because we were right in the NTID college building, we had a lot of deaf student workers and customers. A young deaf woman working the pizza station attracted the eye of a male hearing student, and he tried his best to sign to her his order. His fatal flaw was that he didn’t know the sign for pizza (as you’ve demonstrated), and instead brought his hands together in the shape of a triangle/slice of pizza, pointed at the young lady. She became very embarrassed by this gesture and the guy never realized that he was innocently asking her for her private parts instead of a slice of pizza.

I really thought you were about to troll all these people 😸 glad to see a legit sign!

  18. I’m so going to teach this to my niece! She’s 2 y/o and learned some sign language from the Miss Rachel show, she absolutely loves to sign. Sometimes she prefers to sign over speaking the words (or when she has a mouth full of food) and it’s freaking adorable

So cool! Lis (italian sign language) has a really different sign for pizza even though in italian and in englisbthe word is the same

  20. shrimpcreole

Very cool! Does the wiggle part of the sign represent the glorious cheese?

  21. venus-as-a-bjork

Interesting, in was thinking about taking an ASL course at the local university. Maybe this is a sign (no pun intended)

  22. Really appreciate this post. Have an awesome day, Sean! 🍕
