The Place One of the newest spots to check out in New Bahru, Le Clos — Wine House & Restaurant is a gorgeous space which serves French comfort food curated to pair with wine with over 800 labels on the menu. Located beside Odem, the space of Clos is split into different sections – retail zone where you can pick up a good range of wines at online prices, a main dining area and an outdoor alfresco terrace area.
The main dining area is elegant, and I like that plants are used as natural partitions to create some dining privacy.
The Food Most of the small and large dishes are grilled in the Josper oven, and for mains you can expect the likes of Homemade Tagliatelle Spanner Crab & Bisque; and Morriseau Mussels, Vin Jaune Marnière & Homemade Fries.
For a start, I had the Drappier Brut Nature Zéro Dosage Champagne (S$24/glass, S$129/bottle) to go with some bites like the Octopus Tempura & Espelette Pepper Mayo (S$18).
The champagne is dry and crisp and goes well with the addictive octopus tempura!
The other bite I had was the Croq’ Basque Chorizo, Confit Onions & Roasted Piquillo Peppers (S$15/S$26) where I enjoyed the good crunch on the crispy twice-baked pizza dough.
For salad, the Watermelon, Feta & Mint (S$20) is refreshing which features cold mint-infused watermelon salad with crumbled feta, gently roasted pine nuts, and mint oil.
I had the watermelon salad with a dry and light white Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre Cotat Caillotte 2023 (S$129/bottle).
For mains, I had the Homemade Tagliatelle Spanner Crab & Bisque (S$32) topped with Italian flat leaf parsley and toasted sliced almonds, where the best part for me is the luscious lobster bisque along with the chunks of spanner crab. The texture of the tagliatelle was too soft for my liking as I prefer my pasta to be more al dente.
I also had the Morisseau Mussels, Vin Jaune Marinière & Homemade Fries (S$32) which showcases Brittany’s seasonal produce with moules de Bouchot from the region’s most renowned mussels producer, Maison Morisseau. The mussels are fresh and clean in flavour, and the white wine sauce is delicious.
I had the mains with a light balanced red wine from Domaine Mayard Châteauneuf-du-Pape (S$155/bottle).
For desserts, I had the Hazelnut Praliné Choux (S$13) and Raspberry Tart Sablé (S$16) which are not too sweet overall.
Desserts are paired with a pear cider from Bordelet Poire Cormé 2019 (S$13/bottle) and it is great that this cider is not too sweet as well.
Rants If you can’t drink much and here as a couple, then it is a pity to miss out on most of the wine labels since they are mostly available by bottle instead of by glass.
Will I Return Again? We love our wine bars and if you are looking for one, Le Clos — Wine House & Restaurant is one to check out.
