Just bought my first Traeger (Ironwood 650) off Facebook marketplace. Any pro tips for how to clean it before I try my first cook?

Hey! It looks like you posted an image!
If this is a photo of one of your cooks, maybe share the recipe and techniques
used, as it’s almost guaranteed one of the first questions you will be asked!
*What seasoning did you use?
*How long did you cook it, and at what temperature?
*Did you use any special tricks or techniques?
Traeger on!

Hey buddy! Congrats. My advice would be to get the Traeger spray cleaner. I use it after every cook and it is literally effortless. I’ll spray, let it sit for 15 minutes, and wipe with a sponge. You obviously have some more than that, but as the grates are porcelain coated, you should really have no issues. Clean the grates and do your regular seasoning just to make sure the previous owner contaminants are gone.

I lightly sprayed the interior with some “food safe” degreaser and used a scraper to get it all in one spot and took handfuls out with nitrile gloves on. I also vacuumed the pot and then foil wrapped the drip tray.
I mixed a paste of baking soda and dish soap to make a paste for the grates and about 45 minutes later I had it super clean. (I just bought mine used and did 5 cooks before cleaning.
Now going forward I’ll clean the grates as necessary, empty the grease bucket, change put the foil, and vacuum the pot about once weekly unless it gets nasty.
Only time it ever shut down to hi temp was because the inside hadn’t been vacuumed.

Use a wire brush for the box then vacuum . Take out The grill just soap and water. Make sure to put aluminum foil under grill to
Keep it clean . Use a recipient to catch the fat. After you done cooking vacuum the grill and use the clean lean fat a brush it . To avoid rust.

I put the grates in my dishwasher, or just soapy down with a scrub brush outside
As for the inside parts, same soapy dawn cause degreser. Vaccum out the entire insides Including the fire box. Make sure the fire box is cleaned nothing in it
A lot of people use desressers on the inside, I personally just use a paint scrapper and paper towels. I don’t mind some greese long as I get most of it out
I did get a steam cleaner. And it has metal brushes that worked really good, but the brush gets clogged easy. So i found just using the high pressure steam and towels to be sufficient
Then just use tonfoil on all the parts inside. I even tinfoil the metal drip catcher and the catcher bucket
Other than that, its just clean it nothing really to it ya gotta do other than clean it

I just use a nylon brush to knock off the loose stuff and pre heat to 450 for minimum of 20 min prior to cooking Never actually cleaned mine short of vacuuming the ash 🤷🏼
