Bliss 46 Bistro brings a touch of France to historic Sunnyside. Forget about April in Paris and welcome Spring with a classic French meal at Bliss 46 Bistro at affordable prices and no passport required. Spring is the perfect season to get out and explore hidden gems like this petite bistro, nestled on a quiet street just steps from the 7 train. Serving outstanding French cuisine, fine wine, and a steakhouse menu, a meal here is…well….pure bliss!
Chef and owner Esteban Rojas and his wife Marisel opened Bliss 46 Bistro 15 years ago after years of honing his craft at top restaurants in Manhattan. The petite dining room has cozy tables covered in crisp white linens topped with red cloth napkins, and soft French music in the background. There’s a Happy Hour from 2pm to 7pm and a fantastic lunch menu for just $20 from 11am to 4pm. Choose tomato and avocado salad or carrot ginger soup, then an entrée, and dessert or a glass of wine for less than the price of fast food. Make any weekday special with a delectable lunch at Bliss 46 Bistro.

Lovely Marisel opened a bottle of wine for us while we decided on the first course. The Chef recommended Moules Marinieres and we were delighted with the fresh mussels steamed in a fragrant broth of white wine, garlic and butter that we soaked up with the warm, crusty rolls brought to our table. I can’t resist escargots served in a special dish full of garlic and butter sauce that you’ll want to soak up with the toasted bread that flanks this dish. Sauteed calamari is a popular dish with butter, garlic, white wine and zesty marinara sauce ($9.99). My well-dressed companion enjoyed the French onion soup served in a hot crock bubbling with gruyere cheese and croutons ($8.49).
There are two menus available at Bliss 46. One is a traditional French bistro menu with classic fare such as Coq au Vin (braised chicken stew in red wine), raviolis aux champignons with black truffle and mushroom butter sauce, and tender lobster ravioli. Any time of year, roasted chicken au jus with wild mushrooms, mashed potatoes and white truffle oil is pure comfort food. Loup de mer is pan-roasted branzino served with porcini risotto, roasted asparagus and saffron sauce ($26.95). I relished the pan-seared fillet of sole resting on wonderful lentil salad with red wine, butter, and caper sauce ($19.49). This beautiful platter was adorned with a purple orchid for extra wow!

The Bliss 46 Steakhouse menu features dry-aged steaks, chops, and premium burgers supplied by Pat La Frieda, purveyor of fine meats. Choose among a 12-ounce NY Strip steak served with au poivre sauce and green beans, or the classic bistro dish Steak Frites with garlic butter and crispy fries. Juicy lamb chops and pork chops are daily specials on the board outside so stop in on your way home from work and leave the cooking to Chef Esteban.
Plan your Springtime family parties at Bliss 46 Bistro for up to 35 guests and make your baptism, christening, graduation, or anniversary party a big hit. Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday with fluffy omelets filled with goat cheese, vegetables, and eggs Benedict. Croque Monsieur is the French version of a grilled cheese sandwich layered with ham and cheese and the Bliss burger is a great way to start the day. Brunch at Bliss is a great venue for a weekend gathering of friends and family.

French desserts are too good to skip, especially when the warm apple crumble tart with vanilla ice cream is so good. We shared mango mousse cake with passionfruit sauce and there’s also house made crème brulee, espresso tiramisu, and warm bread pudding.
