Summary:
3/5 if you know your matcha
5/5 if you prefer sweet matcha drinks similar to Starbucks.
I took the trip to see what it was about after someone posted here about it. I ordered a matcha latte and double matcha.
Matcha latte: First sip is a hit of sweetness you cannot taste anything else in the drink. Sweeter than Starbucks Matcha latte. I can tell they used simple syrup to sweeten it because it’s a distinct flavor versus mixing in white sugar with the matcha.
Double matcha: Consistency is a “thicker”drink due to the cream. There’s hints of vanilla. The matcha flavor is there. It’s good.
Matcha: The double matcha drink has flavor but it’s not as strong for what I taste. I can tell they use high grade matcha, but the need to sweeten with sugar negates the true taste of the tea. I’m making the comparison to the high grade culinary matcha I bought around November from a Japanese supplier. The high grade culinary matcha I have has the earthy smell like it’s fresh out the stone grinder. Without any sugar added, it has a slight bitter and umami flavor. The double matcha is comparable to this type of matcha with sugar and no umami. It is not comparable to the special grinds from places like Ippodo when choosing matcha by thick or thin and flavor profile.
