One person was killed Thursday following an industrial accident at Alexander Valley Cellars in Windsor, officials said.
Just before 1 p.m., a crew with the Sonoma County Fire District responded to a request for a rescue involving a person trapped at the facility at 1010 Shiloh Road, according to Karen Hancock, a community outreach specialist with the fire district.
Windsor Police Sgt. Jason Little said a 40-year-old male forklift equipment operator was working on a pallet in the warehouse and became wedged between two pallets.
A pallet weighing about 3,000 pounds then fell on him, ultimately killing him, Little said.
He added he had no additional details Thursday afternoon because it is considered an industrial accident, which will be investigated by the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Little called it a “tragic incident” and said staff at Alexander Valley Cellars are cooperating with authorities.
A person who answered the phone at Alexander Valley Cellars said only: “Per the owners, there is no one available to comment right now.”
The business is a family-owned wine storage, transportation and distribution facility.
A representative with CalOSHA could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday.
The town of Windsor contracts for its police services with the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.
