I get grossed out if it’s too raw, but I like it to be easy to chew I’ve always ordered medium and it’s not what I want(p.s. don’t judge me for eating like a caveman. 😭)

    Medium

If you aren’t getting it medium enough when you are out, go med-well

  2. Depends where you go, or more realistically a complete roll of the dice. This could be anywhere from rare to medium-well at a restaurant that has steak on the menu (as opposed to a specialised steak house).

Hard to tell because of this photo, the nature light is affecting my prescription of the doneness, it appears medium well but I think it actually might be more rare

this is medium. medium rare, the light pink will be way darker red.

Just start at medium and change your order accordingly from there.

  6. Hard to tell with color, need to check temp. I’d say medium-medium well. a mid point between the two.

I would say medium, erring towards a tad bit more done than that.

As others have said, for the love of god buy a better knife lol

Am a chef. This is medium under poor lighting.

At the restaurant (steakhouse) I’m employed at this looks to be about 130 degrees, just slightly shy of medium. “Medium minus” is how it would be conveyed on the ticket to me.

We take steak temps very seriously so even if it’s technically correct but it isn’t what you wanted, we would then either ask if you would like it heated up to a higher temp or wanted it rarer and then we would make you a new one fast as hell. That’s not very common and usually pisses off everyone involved including the customer and my boss.

People are going to say this is medium, but I always order medium rare at a restaurant and this is what I get.

  11. I feel like when I’m at a lot of restaurants, I find myself having to order one temperature lower than what I actually want, in order to get the cook I *do* want. Maybe that’s why you’re having trouble getting the doneness you want in restaurants vs. at home?

You should carry copies of this photo in your wallet along with a little stapler, and have it stapled to the order ticket.

Let’s be serious,OP cut that with his/her fingernails!

I would call that medium rare, a little close to medium than rare. If you order medium rare in a restaurant, and it arrives too undone for your liking, sometimes at your request they’ll grill it a few more seconds. Just don’t order medium—can easily arrive at your table as brown with little to no pink.

in my experience they pretty much always cook it darker than I ask for so even tho this looks medium try asking for it a level or two more rare and you might get this

Definitely medium, 145-150 degrees if the cook is equipped with a basic thermometer.

The answers to this question are why I hated working in a steakhouse. No ne knows what tf they are talking about.

Lightning makes it hard. Im gonna say medium. However some restaurants suck and either go slightly over or slightly under. Si what you should ask for…depends.

Order medium. If its perfect: Cool

If its under: Order medium well there in the future

If its over: Order Medium Rare

If its blue or burned: Find a new place to dine.
