I’ve scraped and heated grill to try and get rid of all of this gunk. I was given this grill, converted it from NG to LP and trying to get clean enough to cook on. Any thoughts on how to finish it? Also are these grates still good or are they needing replaced?

I use a 1″ puddy knife. Over degreaser, bathtub, pressure washer.
That only when i get a roadside grill though. After the 1st deep clean, i just use the puddy knife.
Dawn soap or simple green. Putty knife or razor scraper. Keep in mind it will look like this again after 5 cooks. As for the grates, throw those away and get yourself some 303 stainless grates 7mm to 9mm. The 9mm are on some summit models. My preference is stainless grates over cast iron. Both are great though. These units use the same grates measurements with 1999-2006 Weber genesis. So the parts are widely available online.
One thing I am not sure of is the performance after a NG to LP conversion. Happy grilling!
I also have the same one. Cleaned it up nicely and upgraded the flav bars and grates to full stainless steel 303.

Members mark commercial grill/ oven cleaner. You can get it at Walmart if you dont have a sams club membership. Wear gloves, spray on, let it dwell, 0000 steel wool and a scraper, rinse, repeat.
Looks pretty good. Fire it up with some inexpensive proteins and potatoes you might not want to eat.
I bought a cheap wood spatula that I always use to scrape off those build-ups.
Grate looks ok. You could just use a metal grill brush here. But it won’t really get rid of the rust. Here your best option is to replace it soon.
