When cooking dinner and opening a new bottle of olive oil most people normally throw the tab straight into the bin.

Most of us think that the tab is just to show us that the bottle hasn’t been tampered with – but there is much more to it.

A TikTok video by @foodies, shared on Twitter, demonstrates removing the green tab, flipping it, and fitting it back into the top of the plastic bottle, which naturally leaves a gap around the tab.

This modification allows for a gradual flow of oil, offering precise control over the quantity used and you won’t get messy spills.

The ‘Today Years Old’ Twitter page called the tip a gamechanger and their followers have been left feeling shocked.

One follower said: “That’s handy! They could have told us!”.

Another pipped: “Wow. Never knew.”

“Are you kidding me!?!” exclaimed another.

“Manufacturers should be telling consumers how to use their products in the first place” said a fourth.

“I never would have thought of this” added another.

“Sometimes I believe great engineering just goes unnoticed.

We all know the kitchen can quickly become a place where mess develops – and it’s not always the fault of spilled olive oil.

Instead, it can often turn into a dumping ground for everyone’s belongings like keys and purses.

And if you’re someone who stocks up on ingredients, trying to find extra space in your kitchen can feel a little overwhelming.

However, Stacey Solomon has revealed a clever hack to create ‘so much more space’ in her kitchen.

The mum-of-five took to her Instagram story to share the tip with her six million followers.

She used what appeared to be three A4-wide letter trays, which she hung at the end of her kitchen island.

The 35-year-old, who presents Sort Your Life Out on the BBC, managed to attach them using an electric drill.

Having these trays at the end of her kitchen island meant she could neatly store all her vegetables and fruit, including carrots, potatoes, onions, and apples.

She wrote: “So happy with this! I feel like I’m saving so much space and they’re right on the island ready for me to use for cooking.”

A DIY fan has gone even further and revealed how she changed the entire aesthetic of her kitchen for less than £100.

After being quoted thousands of pounds for professionals to do the job, this savvy mum decided to do it herself and was able to turn the space from drab to fab thanks to purse-friendly Amazon buys.

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @scullen, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up 159,200 views, 4,726 likes and 220 comments.

The DIY enthusiast said: “Here’s how I changed our entire kitchen aesthetic for under £100 using paint and handles, with time spent waiting for each coat to dry, taking doors off, and putting them back on again, but it was totally worth it.

“One day we will look to refit this kitchen with a brand new one when we extend.

“But for now, it’s the perfect budget-friendly solution.”
